Room to run -- Ashland County Dog Shelter gets recreation area

The Flour Barrel brought several dog lovers together to make a much-needed improvement to the Ashland County Dog Shelter. About six weeks ago, dog trainer Dianne Hammontree and shelter volunteer Brent Thompson were at the store on Claremont Road, discussing the need for a fenced-in recreation area for the shelter dogs.

Three injured in two-vehicle crash near Polk

Three people were injured in an accident in the Polk area Thursday when a driver traveling west on Ohio 302 failed to yield to oncoming traffic. While attempting to cross Ohio 302 the driver was struck by an oncoming vehicle containing two passengers traveling south on Ohio 89. According to Polk Fire Chief Matt Spaniel, all three individuals were transported to University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center by Polk Emergency Medical Squad, citing chest, neck and back pains.

Firefighters battle garage fire

Polk-Jackson Fire Department responds to a Monday morning garage fire at 755 Township Road 101 in the Polk area. Town and Country and Nankin provided water tankers, while Ashland County Sheriff's Office handled traffic control.
